Art League RI and the University of Rhode Island Graduate School of Oceanography are featuring the works of artists and scientists in a new exhibition titled “The Synergy Project: A Collaboration of Art and Science” at Studio Blue on the URI Narragansett Bay Campus.With its goal to communicate oceanographic research to wider audiences through art exhibits and events, The Synergy Project has paired artists across many mediums with scientists from URI and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution since 2020. This third Synergy Project group exhibition features 50 pieces from returning artists and scientists as well as new work exploring new topics. Each exhibition is an opportunity for guests to learn about ocean science in an engaging and unconventional way, prompting new conversations about science and its importance in climate regulation and ocean health with communities near and far.

The exhibit hung in Green Hall, The President’s House and The Welcome Center includes work in a variety of media by 20 artists originally from the Caribbean, Central and South America reflecting many aspects of their culture featuring: Agonza, Angel Cajigas-Arbelo, Nilton Cardenas, Julia Castillo, Luis Cepeda, Raphael Diaz, Tamara Diaz, Ana Flores, Rebecca Flores, Humberto Grullon, Francisco Hernandez, Daniel Manta, Pablo Mijares, Arides Picardo, Gabriel Rojas, Amalia Jose Gonzalez Ruis, Salvador Sanchez, Jose Sejo, Ramon Santiago, Rafael Trinidad, with musician Gian Carlo Buscaglia and poets Luis Peralta, and Raff Diaz performing at the reception.Green Hall and The President’s House and The Robert J. As new offshore wind farm projects commence along the New England coast, who gets to have a say in where, or if, they happen? Professor David Bidwell is studying how vulnerable groups and communities are reacting to their development, including residents’ and visitors’ attitudes toward the Block Island Wind Farm project and its impacts on tourism and recreation, as well as the role of the media in public perception of offshore wind farms.
