- Oct 33:00 PMAn HCI approach to computing technologies for medievalistsThe Department of Computer Science is hosting a presentation on An HCI approach to identifying ways to better design computing technologies to meet the unique needs of medieval research. Tina-Marie Ranalli will present work that uses a human-computer interaction lens to understand how medievalists currently use computing technologies, what unique needs they have, and how HCI can better design them. Ranalli holds a research faculty affiliation with the Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures at URI; her research focuses on marginalized communities across two fields – the humanities and human-computer interaction. Ranalli has been working with the ASSET lab in the Department of Computer Science and Statistics for the past several years.

- Oct 33:30 PMCrime Friday: Oct. 3 — “Defending the dumb"URI's Forensic Science Partnership lecture series is one of the more unique lecture series in Rhode Island. The Oct. 3 topic is "Defending the dumb,” Virginia Maxwell, University of New Haven. Maxwell is an expert in investigating animal cruelty with a focus on physical evidence and farm animal welfare. She uses crime data to predict hot spots for crimes against animals, in areas such as dog fighting, the meatpacking industry, industrialized agriculture, and horse racing. All lectures are open to the public at no cost and are held on Fridays at 3:30 p.m. in the Richard E. Beaupre Center for Chemical and Forensic Sciences (Room 100), 140 Flagg Rd., Kingston.
