- Nov 21, 2024: The Synergy Project: A Collaboration of Art and Science at Studio Blue, Coastal Institute Building, Bay CampusArt League RI and the University of Rhode Island Graduate School of Oceanography are featuring the works of artists and scientists in a new exhibition titled “The Synergy Project: A Collaboration of Art and Science” at Studio Blue on the URI Narragansett Bay Campus. With its goal to communicate oceanographic research to wider audiences through art exhibits and events, The Synergy Project has paired artists across many mediums with scientists from URI and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution since 2020. This third Synergy Project group exhibition features 50 pieces from returning artists and scientists as well as new work exploring new topics. Each exhibition is an opportunity for guests to learn about ocean science in an engaging and unconventional way, prompting new conversations about science and its importance in climate regulation and ocean health with communities near and far. - Nov 21, 2024: UNESCO Story Circle Workshops- For URI Faculty, Staff, and Students at Memorial UnionRenowned scholar, Dr. Darla Deardorff, UNESCO Chair of Intercultural Competences at Stellenbosch University in South Africa, will facilitate sessions for the campus community to learn more about a highly successful intercultural methodology called Story Circles that has been piloted in all five UNESCO regions around the world as well as in the virtual environment. UNESCO Story Circles works with any group of people in a wide variety of settings using little to no resources. This structured yet adaptable intercultural methodology is used to practice key intercultural competencies such as listening for understanding and are a powerful tool for promoting cross-cultural dialogue, fostering empathy and also learning about oneself.
