URI, WLNE Announce Partnership to Air Football, Basketball Games
WLNE Report KINGSTON, R.I.
– Rhode Island Athletics and WLNE will partner to provide linear broadcasts of URI football and basketball games for the 2024-25 season.Through the three-year deal, WLNE's MeTV will pick up URI's production for five home football games and most home basketball games for both the men's and women's basketball games. The production for the broadcasts will be handled by the existing partnership between the Athletic Department and URI's Harrington School of Communications.
Rhode Island Director of Athletics Thorr Bjorn worked closely with WLNE General Manager Charlie Henrich to work out the deal. Headed by Athletics Multimedia Coordinator Dave Walzer, URI's Harrington School students will handle the production, which is also the source for all University events run on FloFootball.com and ESPN+.
"This is an exciting partnership for Rhode Island Athletics and WLNE," URI Director of Athletics Thorr Bjorn said. "It expands viewership of our football and basketball games within the state. More than that though, it also showcases the talents of our Harrington School students. Whether it is behind the camera or in front of it, we have seen vast improvement over the last few years in the product that our own students are creating. It is a point of pride for the entire University."
The deal between URI and WLNE allows MeTV to carry linear broadcasts. All streams remain solely on FloFootball.com for CAA Football games and ESPN+ for basketball games.
