KINGSTON, R.I. – April 29, 2025 – Registration is open, but capacity is limited, for a series of free trainings offered this summer designed to empower emerging and established healthcare and public service professionals with the skills to lead with confidence and make an impact on their teams, patients, and communities.

URI’s Rhode Island Nursing Education Center (RINEC) Summer Skills Series allows candidates to participate in multiple modules or focus on one area of development. The program is funded by the Rhode Island Office of the Postsecondary Commissioner, presented by the University of Rhode Island Office of Strategic Initiatives, and hosted by RINEC.

Healthcare Leadership a 10-week training for current and emerging healthcare administrators, will run from June 3 to Aug. 5, on Tuesdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., at RINEC, 350 Eddy Street, Providence. The training equips participants with the strategic thinking, communication, and management skills needed to lead effectively in a complex healthcare environment.

Mental Health First Aid is a one-day workshop held at RINEC for two distinct groups: healthcare administrators and first responders.

The training for healthcare administrators seeking to create healthier, more supportive workplaces, will be held on Wednesday, June 11 and facilitated by Kristin Ridge, associate dean of students in URI’s Office of Community Standards.

The workshop for first responders, tailored for law enforcement, emergency medical technicians, firefighters, and frontline personnel, will be offered on Wednesday, Aug. 6 and led by Alegra (Sacco) Opiela, a clinical psychology Ph.D. candidate at URI.

MedTech Drug Administration Trainingis designed to meet the Rhode Island Department of Health’s rules and regulations pertaining to Rhode Island certificates of registration for medication aides. Offered June 3 to July 22, from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays at RINEC and Thursdays via Zoom, the non-credit program is taught by Patrick Kelly, an associate teaching professor in URI’s College of Pharmacy. The Summer Skills Series is just one example of the workforce development programs offered by URI’s Office of Strategic Initiatives for organizations looking to upskill their workforce or individuals who want to achieve upward mobility in their careers.
