- All dayThe Synergy Project: A Collaboration of Art and ScienceArt League RI and the University of Rhode Island Graduate School of Oceanography are featuring the works of artists and scientists in a new exhibition titled “The Synergy Project: A Collaboration of Art and Science” at Studio Blue on the URI Narragansett Bay Campus. With its goal to communicate oceanographic research to wider audiences through art exhibits and events, The Synergy Project has paired artists across many mediums with scientists from URI and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution since 2020. This third Synergy Project group exhibition features 50 pieces from returning artists and scientists as well as new work exploring new topics. Each exhibition is an opportunity for guests to learn about ocean science in an engaging and unconventional way, prompting new conversations about science and its importance in climate regulation and ocean health with communities near and far.

- 12:40 PM1h 5mChE Grad Seminar: Dr. Mu-Ping Nieh, UConnA Robust Discoidal LNP Platform for Targeting Theranostic Carriers And Their Structural CharacterizationAbstract:Biocompatible lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) have become emergent nanocarriers for delivering RNAs and DNAs. The common challenges of RNA-LNPs include structural analysis, reproducibility, storage, etc. In this talk, I will present a discoidal LNP platform (also known as bicelle) of which we have applied a bottom-up approach to understand how bicelles self-assemble, transform into other morphology and promote cellular uptake. This platform is applicable for theranostic delivery nanocarriers which will potentially overcome the abovementioned challenges. The thorough comprehension of the self-assembling behavior leads to applications for aggregation-enhanced emission (AEE)/photoacoustic (AEP) and templated polymerization for nanorings and nanowebs. The well-defined nanostructure is mainly characterized using small angle X-ray and neutron scattering (SAXS/SANS) which prove to be powerful methods for in-situ studies.
