Art League RI and the University of Rhode Island Graduate School of Oceanography are featuring the works of artists and scientists in a new exhibition titled “The Synergy Project: A Collaboration of Art and Science” at Studio Blue on the URI Narragansett Bay Campus. With its goal to communicate oceanographic research to wider audiences through art exhibits and events, The Synergy Project has paired artists across many mediums with scientists from URI and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution since 2020. This third Synergy Project group exhibition features 50 pieces from returning artists and scientists as well as new work exploring new topics. Each exhibition is an opportunity for guests to learn about ocean science in an engaging and unconventional way, prompting new conversations about science and its importance in climate regulation and ocean health with communities near and far. Tech Bytes is an in person, informal discussion group with faculty in mind. Each month we offer this time to discuss various topics. This is open discussion, so if there is a curiosity or pressing matter come and drop in. There is a email group to receive notices, and we are building an online discussion forum to extend the topics beyond the in-person meetings. Each month a reminder email will be sent and where applicable it will include an article, research paper, weblink or other resource to frame the topic and initial conversations, but conversations may wander to other topics. Supporting Children with Complex Health Care Needs This spring, URI Magazine will examine our often-complicated health care system with perspectives and advice from alumni working in the field. In coordination, Faculty Office Hour will offer additional perspectives from faculty whose work focuses on supporting patients with complex health care needs. This webinar will be presented by Ann Marie Moraitis, PhD, MS, RN and David Geyer, PhD, RN, CPNP-PC, assistant professors in the College of Nursing whose research focuses on patients with complex needs. Professor Moraitis’s research interests examine the use of digitally delivered physical activity support for youth cancer patients to optimize their quality of life and long-term health outcomes, while Professor Geyer’s research seeks to address the challenges of caring for children with complex medical conditions at home.
