Students line up for first late-night Stuff-A-Ram event of semester
Students lined up on Oct. 8 outside the Ram’s Den in the Memorial Union for the semester’s first Late-Night Stuff-A-Ram event, hosted by the Office of Student Involvement, inviting students to build their own stuffed Rhody the Ram.
The event had 250 plush kits available, and people distributed them on a first-come, first-served basis beginning at 8 p.m., according to Micheal Nolfe, coordinator for the Office of Student Involvement.
“It’s expensive for us to provide it, but we know it’s really popular with students,” Nolfe said. “I think we have enough for tonight, but if people don’t get one tonight, we are going to do this again — probably several more times.”
Not all Stuff-A-Ram events will occur this semester; more are expected later in the academic year, according to Nolfe.
“[Stuff-A-Ram] might be closer to the end of the semester, but definitely in the spring semester,” Nolfe said. “We hope that we have 250 [students] tonight, and if we were able to do so, then we could order more for the next event.”
For many students, the event has become a social staple, according to Nolfe.
“I think it’s worth it, especially if we get one,” first-year student Meredith Clarke said. “It will be disappointing if we don’t, but we seem to be in good standards where we are at the moment. Yeah, if we were back there [at the back of the line], we’re prepared. We’ve been hyping ourselves up all day.”
Hours before the event started, the line stretched throughout the Memorial Union atrium, with students holding plush skins and awaiting filling stations set up by staff and volunteers, according to Clarke.
The turnout will help guide planning for future programs, according to Nolfe. No dates have been publicly confirmed for additional “Stuff-A-Ram” nights. Updates will be announced on the Office of Student Involvement’s website and the URI Office of Student Involvement instagram @uri.officeofsi.
