Rhody Athletics Challenge Underway for URI Athletics

KINGSTON, R.I. - Thursday is the University of Rhode Island's annual Rhody Athletics Challenge.
Last year, URI Athletics raised a RAC-record $1.17 million, up from the previous year's record $1,037,152. This year looks to continue the trend of the campaign raising more than $1 million of annual support for the athletics department.
Every team has set up fundraising challenges for the day. Full details can be found by visiting alumni.uri.edu/rac. Information on each one is as follows:
- Football - $25,000 Matching Gift Challenge: All gifts to URI Football will be matched dollar for dollar up to $25,000 thanks to an anonymous donor.
- Men's Basketball - $15,000 Matching Gift Challenge: All gifts to URI Men's Basketball will be matched dollar for dollar up to $15,000 thanks to a generous gift by Danielle '94 and David '80 Horne.
- Baseball - $10,000 Matching Gift Challenge: All gifts to URI Baseball will be matched by an anonymous donor 1:1 up to $10,000.
- Softball - $2,500 Matching Gift Challenge: All gifts to URI Softball will be matched dollar for dollar up to $2,500 thanks to an anonymous donor!
- Men's Track & Field/Cross Country - $5,000 Matching Gift Challenge: All gifts to Men's Track & Field/Cross Country will be matched 1:1 up to $5,000 thanks to the generosity of Peter '97 P'28 and Jocelyn '00, M.S.'22 P'28 Sherman.
- Women's Track & Field/Cross Country - $5,000 Matching Gift Challenge: All gifts to Women's Track & Field/Cross Country will be matched 1:1 up to $5,000 thanks to the generosity of Peter '97 and Jocelyn '00, M.S.'22 Sherman.
- Golf - $20,000 Participation Challenge: $20,000 will be unlocked once 25 donors make a gift thanks to the generosity of Ray Horoho '82 and Dana Quigley '69 P'05 P'07.
- Men's Soccer - $7,500 Matching Gift Challenge: All gifts to Men's Soccer will be matched 1:1 up to $7,500 by an anonymous donor!
- Swimming & Diving - $5,000 Matching Gift Challenge: Thanks to gifts from Todd Hemenway '89 and Trotta Home Builders, LLC, all gifts to URI Swimming & Diving will be matched 1:1 up to $5,000.
- Lacrosse - $7,500 Matching Gift Challenge: All gifts to women's lacrosse will be matched 1:1 up to $7,500 thanks to the generosity of Stephen P'05 and Diane Sullivan P'05 and an anonymous donor.
- Rowing - $66,500 Matching Gift Challenge: All gifts to URI Rowing will be matched 1:1 up to $66,500 thanks to the generosity of Dan Johnson '82 P'07 and David Johnson '80.
- Women's Basketball - $10,000 Matching Gift Challenge: All gifts to women's basketball will be matched 1:1 up to $10,000 thanks to the generosity of Stephen P'05 and Diane Sullivan P'05
- Tennis - $3,000 Participation Challenge: $3,000 will be unlocked for Tennis once 15 donors make a gift, thanks to the generosity of Chris Yun '88 and Lisa Rodier '87, along with an anonymous donor!
- Women's Soccer - $500 Matching Gift Challenge: All gifts to Women's Soccer will be matched 1:1 up to $500 by two anonymous donors!
- Volleyball - $300 Matching Gift Challenge: All gifts to Volleyball will be matched 1:1 up to $300 by two anonymous donors!
- Equipment Room - $2,000 Matching Gift Challenge: $2,000 will be unlocked once 15 donors make a gift thanks to the generosity of Chris Santopietro '87!
The Rhody Athletic Challenge is the University of Rhode Island's day to give back. With your help, URI will raise critical funds for all our programs. From now until 11:59 p.m., RAC is an opportunity for alumni, families, students, faculty and friends to join together and show their Rhody pride by making a gift to maximize participation and impact.
The men's teams that raise the most money from the most donors will win bonus funds for their program:
- First Place: $7,500
- Second Place: $5,000
- Third Place: $2,500
- Fourth Place: $1,000
The women's teams that raise the most money from the most donors will win the following bonus funds for their program:
- First Place: $7,500
- Second Place: $5,000
- Third Place: $2,500
- Fourth Place: $1,000
- Fifth Place: $750
- Sixth Place: $500
The URI Spirit Squads (Ram Band, Ramettes and Cheerleaders) also will be raising funds. The squad the raises the most money from the most donors will receive $1,500 and the next highest will receive $1,000.
