- Apr 271:00 PMThe 2025 Sustainability SummitFifty-five years ago, during the Apollo 8 Mission, astronaut William Anders took the first color photo of the Earth. For the first time, the general public was able to see the world in its entirety, a tiny blue marble enveloped in the vast, inky blackness of Space. The Earth could no longer be thought of as an endless, invincible resource. More than ever, people understood the planet’s vulnerability and importance. Suddenly, environmentalism took off: the EPA was formed, Earth Day was declared a holiday, protections for endangered species were put in place, and standards for clean air and water were established. Unfortunately, in the years since, passion and public encouragement for sustainable practices has steadily declined. The earth’s deterioration became normalized, politicized, thought of as insurmountable, or ‘Not my problem’. Let’s bring back a culture that cares about the environment! This Summit topic aims to educate on the importance of thinking sustainability, and focuses on what YOU can do about it. Guest Speakers, free sushi, and an interactive workshop, all with eco-flair. Please RSVP if you plan to attend!Agenda1:00pm-1:15pm - Welcoming from President Parlange 1:15pm-1:30pm - URI Sustainability Clubs' Presentation 1:30pm-2:00pm - Dave McLaughlin - RIDEM - The State of Rhode Island's sustainability missions 2:00pm-2:30pm - Dr. Norbert Mundorf - URI Communications Professor - Envisioning and Communicating a Culture of Sustainability 2:30pm-3:00pm - Mallory Flowers URI Management Professor - Corporate Sustainability and Policy 3:15pm-4:00pm - Snack Break (Sushi!) 4:00pm-5:00pm - Interactive Workshop - How to voice your opinion on local sustainability bills!
- Apr 272:00 PMGuys and Dolls, Music and Lyrics by Frank Loesser, Book by Abe Burrows and Jo SwerlingHailed as the perfect musical comedy, this award-winning classic gambles with luck and love under the bright lights of Broadway. "Count me squarely in the Guys and Dolls camp. If there's a flaw to be found in the 1950 'music fable of Broadway,' based on characters created by journalist/short story writer Damon Runyon, it's not in the Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows' drum-tight book. And it's certainly not in Frank Loesser's honey of a score." -New York Stage Review
