The URI Symphony Orchestra, Dr. Luis Víquez, director, will present a concert featuring the winners of the 2024 Orchestra Soloist Competition: Nancy Olivares, cello, and Daniel Villelea, guitar.

You Can’t Do That! An inappropriate Interpretation of Johann Sebastian Bach’s 6th cello suite, among other things, for the bass guitar. This installment of the University Artist Series presents URI artist teacher, bassist Joseph Bentley's original interpretation of J.S. Bach’s 6th cello suite, but not on his usual contrabass violin but rather on the electric bass guitar.There will be will be a short lecture and presentation of Bentley's performance practice and research into performing this work. The concert will also feature the premier of Bentley's original composition "Theme and Variations on an Anglican Hymn in the Romantic Style, for solo bass guitar."

Jazz trombonist Luis Nunez, along with talented friends will present a recital in partial fulfillment of his Master in Music degree.

Dr. Corbus de Toit, Associate Professor of Flute at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, will present a master class for the students in the studio of Allison Parramore, artist teacher of flute at URI. Dr. Corbus is a native of South Africa and has soloed with orchestras around the world. Since 2010 he has been the pricipal flute in the Boulder Chamber Orchesta, Colorado. This event is free and open to the public.

Tyler will be presenting his junior jazz saxophone recital in partial fullfillment for a degree in Music.

The Rhode Island Music Educators Association and Dr. Emmett Goods, director of the URI Music Department's jazz program, present a day of jazz bands from various high schools schools throughout the state playing before a pannel of judges who critique each group and rate their performances. This even is free and opento the public.
