Harvard Crimson Elite (2/7)
URI Coaches Invitational (2/8)
On Friday, the Rams made the trip to Boston to compete in the Harvard Crimson Elite. Fourth-year Matthew Santy placed fifth in the high jump with a jump of 2.05 meters. In the shot put, second-year Theo Puterbaugh placed sixth, throwing 16.09 meters. First-year Winslow Sightler followed behind him, throwing 15 meters. Third-year Alexander Baez placed fifth in the weighted throw by throwing 18.34 meters.
On Saturday, the Rams hosted the URI Coaches Invitational. Second-year Alex Arbogast won the 60-meter final in 6.81 seconds. First-year Antonio Capalbo won the mile with a time of 4:12.29. Third-year Matt Santy placed first in the high jump, marking 2.10 meters. Puterbaugh won the shot put, throwing 16.38 meters.
Women’s Track and Field
URI Coaches Invitational (2/8)
On Saturday, the Rams hosted their senior night and the URI Coaches Invitational, winning four different events. Fifth-year Megan Wood was the top finisher in the shot put (46’ 2”) and the weight throw (55’ 10”). Second-year Abigail Colella won the 500-meter in 59.40 seconds. To finish out the day, third-year Joyce London, first-year Sydney Haik, first-year Lily MacDonald and fifth-year Amiyah Santana won the 4×400-meter relay with a time of 4:04.18.
Women’s Basketball
Final (2/8): URI 57-36 University of Dayton
Final (2/12): George Mason University 56-44 URI
On Saturday, the Rams hosted the Flyers. Within the first two quarters, URI built one of its largest halftime leads of conference play, going up 31-11. After the break, the Rams increased their lead to 27 by going on an 11-0 run with the help of fourth-year Sophie Philips, who finished 4-5 beyond the arc. Dayton managed to outscore URI in the final quarter, but it wasn’t enough as the home team sealed the victory 57-36. Following the win, the Rams hit the road Wednesday to take on George Mason. URI started the game slow, trailing 17-8 after the opening quarter. The Rams fought their way back, making it 25-22 going into the half led by second-year Sophia Vital with nine points. Despite the strong effort by Vital and others, the Rams lost their momentum and were defeated 56-44.
Men’s Basketball
Final (2/8): George Mason University 82-67 URI
Final (2/12): URI 68-64 St. Bonaventure University
On Saturday, URI struggled to keep up with first-place George Mason. The Patriots built up a 16-point lead late in the first half with eight three-pointers. From there, the Rams climbed their way back by going 9-11 from the field to close out the half. The Rams went on a 10-3 run with the help of fourth-year Jaden House’s back-to-back drives and a three-point play from second-year Cam Estevez to make it 46-40 going into the half. George Mason gradually pulled away as Rhody struggled to get any momentum offensively. The Patriots outscored Rhode Island 33-9 from beyond the perimeter. Following their loss, the Rams took on St. Bonaventure at home on Wednesday. The Bonnies started the first half out strong, shooting an even 50% from the field and going into the half up 37-25. The Rams secured a comeback 68-64 win on a four-point play from third-year Jamarques Lawrence with 2.4 seconds.
